Health & Safety Training

Training that builds a genuine safety culture, not just a certificate.

Training that's genuinely engaging and workplace-relevant changes behaviour; training that's a box-ticking exercise doesn't. We deliver practical health and safety training designed around your actual hazards and workforce, from inductions and toolbox talks to specialist and legal-appointee training.

Problems this service solves

  • Training that's generic, disengaging, and forgotten within days
  • No structured training matrix linking roles to required competencies
  • Gaps in legal appointee training (e.g. first aid, fire fighting, incident investigation)
  • Low safety awareness on the floor despite policies existing on paper
  • Difficulty maintaining and tracking training records for audits

Who needs this

Businesses building or updating an induction and training programme
Companies with gaps in legal appointee or specialist training
Organisations wanting to genuinely improve safety culture, not just compliance records
Businesses preparing for client or certification audits requiring training evidence
Employers whose current training feels like a formality rather than a real intervention

How the engagement works

1

Training needs analysis

We identify what your teams actually need to know, based on real workplace hazards and legal requirements.

2

Programme design

Training content and format is built around your operation, not a generic off-the-shelf course.

3

Delivery

Practical, engaging, workshop-style training delivered on-site or as scheduled.

4

Records & follow-up

You receive complete training records and, where useful, a refresher schedule.

What you receive

  • Delivered training sessions
  • Training records/certificates
  • Training matrix (where applicable)

Teams leave our training able to explain, in their own words, why a control measure matters, not just that a form says they attended.

Frequently asked questions

Do you provide accredited training?

We deliver practical, workplace-focused training; where formal accreditation is required for a specific course, we'll confirm this clearly upfront.

Can training be delivered on-site?

Yes, on-site delivery is common so training reflects your actual environment and equipment.

Do you help build a full training matrix, not just deliver individual sessions?

Yes, we can develop a role-based training matrix that maps legal and operational training requirements across your workforce.

What legal training requirements do you map in the training matrix?

We map the statutory requirements including: first-aid training (First Aid Regulations — at least one first aider per 50 employees in a workplace, or per 100 in an office, with valid 2-year certification), fire-fighting training (SANS 10105 — at least 1 in 50 employees trained), safety representative training (OHS Act Section 18 — time off with pay for training), and any sector-specific requirements such as construction safety training under the Construction Regulations 2014. We also map the Physical Agents Regulations 2024 training requirements for workers exposed to noise, vibration or chemical agents above the action level.

Are your training certificates accredited?

We deliver practical, workplace-focused training. Where formal accreditation is a legal or client requirement (e.g. first-aid Level 1/2/3, fire-fighting, scaffolding inspection), we work with and recommend accredited training providers and help you verify their SETA accreditation and SAQA unit-standard alignment. For toolbox talks, inductions and awareness-level training, we deliver directly with internal attendance records that satisfy the OHS Act Section 8 documentation requirement.

How do you make toolbox talks actually effective?

A toolbox talk is not a reading-out-loud exercise. We structure toolbox talks around a specific, recent hazard or near-miss, keep them to 10-15 minutes, use visual aids and real examples from the site, and end with a two-question check to verify understanding. We train supervisors to deliver toolbox talks themselves — because the message lands differently when it comes from the person who manages the work, not an external trainer. The OHS Act Section 8 requires information to be provided in a way that workers understand; a toolbox talk delivered in a language the workers don't speak is not compliance.

Can you help us verify that training was understood, not just attended?

Yes. ISO 45001:2018/AMD1:2024 Clause 7.3 requires that training effectiveness is evaluated. We build short competency checks into our training — practical demonstrations, scenario-based questions, or on-the-floor observation — and provide the records that demonstrate the evaluation was done. An attendance register without a competency check is evidence of attendance, not of competence.

Legislation and standards we apply

OHS Act 85 of 1993 (Sections 8, 13, 18) · First Aid Regulations · SANS 10105 (fire-fighting) · Construction Regulations 2014 (Regulation 7(1)(c) — construction safety training) · Physical Agents Regulations 2024 (training for exposed workers) · ISO 45001:2018/AMD1:2024 (Clause 7.2 competence, Clause 7.3 awareness) · SAQA unit standards · SETA accreditation requirements

Practitioner's insight

The gap we see most often is between training that was delivered and training that changed behaviour. A business has a thick file of attendance registers, but workers on the floor can't explain why a specific control measure matters or what to do if it fails. We treat training as a behaviour-change intervention, not a documentation exercise. That means the training is delivered in the workers' working language, uses examples from their actual workplace, includes a practical competency check, and is reinforced by supervisor follow-up on the floor. We also see the reverse problem: businesses that deliver excellent training but have no record of it, and who cannot demonstrate to a DoEL inspector or a client auditor that the training happened. Both sides of the equation — the training quality and the training record — must be in place.
